A degree audit is the University's official comparison of a student's academic record against the published requirements of their degree program. It identifies what a student has completed, what is in progress, and what remains — and determines whether the student is eligible to graduate.
1Purpose — why UMF conducts degree audits
- Protect the integrity of the credential. No degree is conferred until the audit confirms the student has satisfied every required course, the program capstone, the minimum credit total, and the minimum cumulative GPA.
- Support accreditation (MSCHE). The audit is documented evidence that UMF operates a systematic, repeatable process ensuring students meet clearly stated program requirements — central to Middle States expectations for educational effectiveness and assessment of student learning.
- Enable advising and student success. Students and advisors get a current, unambiguous view of remaining requirements, improving registration decisions and time-to-degree.
- Coordinate with federal compliance. The audit works alongside Satisfactory Academic Progress monitoring (34 CFR §668.34) that governs Title IV federal financial-aid eligibility.
2Scope
This policy applies to every matriculated student in a UMF degree program. A degree audit is performed at admission / transfer-credit evaluation (to establish the requirement plan), each term as an advising checkpoint, at graduation application (the official certification audit), and on demand when a grade, transfer credit, or requirement changes.
3Definitions & completion rules
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Completed | A passing grade (A+ through D, or Pass) is on record for the required course. |
| In Progress | The course is currently enrolled and not yet graded (IP). |
| Attempted — not passed | Fail, Withdraw, or Retake is on record; the requirement is not yet satisfied. |
| Remaining | No attempt is on record for the required course. |
| Capstone | The designated culminating course that must be completed to graduate. |
| Graduation eligible | All required core + electives + capstone Completed, credits earned ≥ program total, and cumulative GPA ≥ the graduation minimum. |
4Graduation requirements (per program)
The values below are derived from the current CampusOS course catalog and must be confirmed against UMF's official degree-requirement sheet before use in official certification. Required-vs-elective designations and total credits for the MBA in particular require confirmation.
| Program | Required structure (draft) | Total credits | Capstone | Min GPA |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M.Sc Computer Science (CIS) | 10 required core courses | 30 | CIS690 | 3.00 |
| M.Sc Hospitality Management (HMA) | 12 required core courses | 36 | HMA690 | 3.00 |
| Masters of Business Administration (MBA) | 11 core + 2 electives | 40 | MBA690 | 3.00 |
5Procedure
- System of record. Audits are computed from the student's CampusOS transcript of record.
- Tool. The UMF Degree Audit tool generates the per-student audit (completed / in-progress / remaining, credits, GPA, capstone, eligibility verdict) and a printable report.
- Review & certification. The Registrar reviews each graduation-application audit against the official requirement sheet and certifies eligibility. Advising audits are informational.
- Records. Each certification audit is retained as part of the student's permanent academic file.
